# 0061 — Mobile keeps React Navigation 7 and native tabs; one app

> Proposed · 2026-10-19

> [!NOTE]
>
> Amended by [0180](/adr/0180-mobile-apps-and-release-trains): the app count, the release train and
> the store process.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Settled by [0268](/adr/0268-register-answers-thin-items-r1-to-r18): R17: mobile modules are
> compile-time. A product variant is compiled into the app, not loaded at run time, and is not a
> separate app. Decision 3's TODO is settled.

## Context

[0011](/adr/0011-rejected-and-deferred-technologies) rejects expo-router in favour of code-based React Navigation, and this ADR is consistent with it. The mobile app wants platform-native tab
bars, including iOS Liquid Glass, which `react-native-bottom-tabs` provides. Support is verified in its documentation but not yet built with Xcode 26.

## Decision

1. **Mobile navigation is React Navigation 7**, fed by the adapter in [0053](/adr/0053-decorator-route-classes-compiled-to-router-adapters).
2. **Tabs use `react-native-bottom-tabs`** (native tabs, Liquid Glass, `minimizeBehavior`, search role).
3. **There is one mobile app.** Products that need variants use compile-time modules later (TODO), not separate apps.
4. **A build with Xcode 26 must succeed before this ADR is Accepted.**

## Consequences

* Native look and feel on iOS and Android.
* A native-module dependency to track on each Expo SDK upgrade.

## Enforcement

Planned — a CI build of the iOS app on Xcode 26 and a Maestro smoke flow through the tab bar.

## Supersedes and sources

Supersedes: none. Consistent with [0011](/adr/0011-rejected-and-deferred-technologies). Sources: owner decision in chat, 2026-10-19.
